A bill that would toughen penalties for home invasions passed the Senate floor Friday and is headed to Gov. Haley Barbour for his signature.

Senate Bill 2622 increases the minimum prison sentence to 10 years.

Under current state law, anyone convicted of breaking into an occupied or unoccupied home, whether armed or not, can receive a minimum of three years in prison.
