Conference expansion will heavily impact future scheduling

Questions now abound in the Big Ten and Big 12 as both leagues attempt to determine what form their football schedules will take when realignment takes hold.
If both decide to play nine conference games, leaving room for three nonconference opponents annually, the status of many matchups will be tenuous. Some schools might have to buy out contracts, a proposition that can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars per game.
