City Council members expect to learn today what impact temporary workers have on Jackson’s budget and whether they can divert that money to other areas for fiscal 2008.

Council members began the inquiry Wednesday after hearing from Public Works Director Thelman Boyd that his department routinely used temporary laborers. Boyd said he had around 20 such workers.

But in June, the department had 51 temporary laborers on the payroll.
