The Jones County Board of Supervisors has contracted Jackson law firm Brunini, Grantham, Grower and Hewes PLLC to appeal a Federal Emergency Management Agency decision the county says has left it nearly $7 million short for the budget year.

County Administrator Charles Miller said the county cannot operate until the end of this year without the Hurricane Katrina cleanup reimbursement he and the board say was promised by FEMA field agents who met with them at the Laurel courthouse in the days after the 2005 storm.
