BATON ROUGE — LSU freshman safety Craig Loston finally received clearance to practice and joined the Tigers for their Monday workout, LSU Coach Les Miles said.

Loston, who was the No. 1-rated safety in the 2009 recruiting class, was held up by the NCAA Clearinghouse, which did not approve an online class he took at his alma mater, Eisenhower High School in Houston, before the summer. Loston retook the test and the results were accepted.

“We’re excited to finally get Craig on the field, ” Miles said. “We figure he’ll be a very productive part of what is a very talented class.”

Loston spent most of practice watching from the sideline. Miles has said before the staff would try to get him ready quickly.
