Crean will earn every penny – IU Hoops

Finally, the people at Indiana University got it right. (Parade, anybody? How about a celebratory beer?)

Hoosiers basketball coach Tom Crean will finalize the extension to his contract this week, and his deal now will be for 10 years instead of the original eight.
That is money well spent, and a long-term commitment worth making. That also rates as one of the very few smart moves IU has made with regard to its athletic department, although a source said the decision was made by school president Michael McRobbie, and not lame-duck athletic director Rick Greenspan.
Crean knew he was stepping into a messy situation when he left Marquette to take the IU job.
He knew there were leftover recruiting restrictions from the Kelvin Sampson Era of Sleaze, forcing him to rebuild and recruit with one hand tied behind his back.
