Redistricting likely to need extra session

JACKSON – Legislative redistricting is not the only thing that did not get done during the 2011 session.

Legislators also did not approve a plan to redraw the districts for the state’s four U.S. House members. While it appears at this point the federal courts will decide what districts House and Senate members run in later this year, a special session is likely during 2011 to redraw districts for the four U.S. House members.

Ideally, both Sen. Terry Burton, R-Newton, and Rep. Tommy Reynolds, D-Water Valley, chairs of their chambers’ Elections Committee, said that could be a one-day session.
