For the upcoming legislative session, members of a Delta task force hope to use a divide-and-conquer strategy to push through another set of recommendations for the 18-county region.

The group introduced a hefty set of measures in the 2007 Legislature to transform the nation’s poorest and least educated region with housing, educational, health-care and economic development initiatives.

The success of members of the Task Force to Revitalize the Delta, however, can be summed up in three words: Died in committee.

“It fell flat on its face,” said task force member state Rep. John Mayo, D-Clarksdale.
