DeSoto delegation takes wish list to Washington

With wide-ranging hopes despite a hemmed-in federal budget, city and DeSoto County officials are taking their wish list to Washington this week on priorities from an Arkabutla nature complex to funding for interstate roadways and postal needs.

Local officials are scheduled to meet Thursday with First District U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee, who was elected just last fall, U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and other members of the state’s congressional delegation. But as deficit-wary lawmakers whittle away at President Barack Obama’s request — an amendment cutting a record $100 billion passed last month — no one is looking to return with a fat federal check.
