Despite 2nd-most wins in I-A history, Florida State coach Bobby Bowden nudged out door by Seminoles

Bobby Bowden wanted to leave Florida State on his own terms, coaching the Seminoles in the final year of his contract next season, then walking off into the sunset.
But the 80-year-old coach will not get that chance.
Faced with the option of returning next year in what amounted to a ceremonial VIP position, the coach with the second-most wins in Division I-A history chose to preserve his dignity and retired after 34 years at the ACC school, effective after the Seminoles’ bowl game, rather than let the administration dictate his relevance.
