D’IBERVILLE — Mayor Rusty Quave said people advised him he shouldn’t vote for his own pay raise, but he joined the five council members Tuesday and approved a $20,279 annual increase in his pay.
“I’m telling you, I’m voting for this,” he said, “because I feel like it’s time this goes on.”
Councilman Joey Bosaarge voted by phone.
Before the vote Quave asked the audience members, who nearly filled the room, to raise their hands if they supported the raise. All but one person did.
I don’t care if you get the money,” attendee Jim Hall said. “Just change the form of government.” Under D’Iberville’s form of government, the city manager runs the city and gets the big paycheck, he said.
