Don’t laugh too hard at Tennessee’s troubles; next time it could be your team

You read the story out of Knoxville about three University of Tennessee football players — Janzen Jackson, Nu’Keese Richardson and Mike Edwards — who were arrested for what has to be one of the most ill-conceived and amateurish robbery attempts of all time, and you can’t help but wonder how anyone with a future so promising could do something so irresponsibly stupid.
You listen to Vols head coach Lane Kiffin who, barely 12 hours before, bragged on an SEC teleconference about how no Tennessee player had been arrested in his 11 months on the job and you wonder how any coach could be so naive.
Then you show up today to cheer on your favorite college program, from Miami to Washington, including Alabama, Auburn and UAB, and you have to say to yourself: Thank goodness it wasn’t us.
