Twenty years ago, there wasn’t a two-page, Dandy Dozen spread like you’ll find in today’s sports section of The Clarion-Ledger.
There wasn’t a much-hyped, daily countdown announcing online the pre-season list of the state’s 12 best football players.
And there wasn’t any Internet chatter second guessing the picks. (Heck, there wasn’t an Internet, period.)
So it’s understandable that Andre Bennett of Brandon didn’t quite comprehend the significance of those six words his father uttered to him when he returned home from church that Sunday afternoon in 1989.
“Your name is in the paper.”
