Ex-Hinds DA’s move may stall $1B suit

Former longtime Hinds County District Attorney Ed Peters’ decision to give up his law license could affect a $1 billion trade secret lawsuit.

Federal authorities are investigating Peters’ actions in Eaton Corp. v. Jeffrey Frisby, a Hinds County lawsuit, where his protege Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter was the presiding judge. DeLaughter served as an assistant district attorney under Peters.

Attorneys for Frisby have filed a motion asking that all action in the lawsuit be stayed in light of Peters’ admission of improper contact with DeLaughter for the purpose of influencing the outcome of the case.
