Both Gov. Haley Barbour and some members of the Mississippi Legislature are attempting to play a a couple of cynical games regarding K-12 education funding.
Barbour and those lawmakers are perpetuating two myths as they turn into the home stretch of crafting next year’s education budget.
First, there the $65 million question. In Barbour’s FY 2012 Executive Budget Recommendation, the governor promises “essentially the same amount” of K-12 funding as in the current fiscal year at $4.329 billion and “level funding” of the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP).
