Mississippi ratepayers will receive a refund or credit on their electric bills if it’s proven that Entergy overcharged them, Public Service Commission members said Tuesday in response to the company’s latest revelation.

Entergy Mississippi Inc. told the state Public Service Commission the company may have purchased more fuel than it previously reported from a disputed contract that resulted in Louisiana ratepayers receiving a $72 million refund.

The company originally said power from the Evangeline gas contract was limited to Louisiana but earlier this month changed course, saying it received Evangeline fuel from 2005 to 2008.

Entergy told regulators Tuesday it may have purchased power from the disputed contract prior to 2005.
