Environment hearing set on possible shutdown of Moss Point/Escatawpa natural gas system

State utility regulators have scheduled a Sept. 7 public hearing on Moss Point’s leaky natural gas distribution system.

Public Service Commission Chairman Leonard Bentz tells the Mississippi Press (http://bit.ly/Riky2T) that the city had made some progress, though not enough, in addressing the problem.

Bentz says the commission’s Division of Pipeline Safety has monitored, investigated and offered assistance to Moss Point. He said the ongoing problems prompted the setting of the hearing which could lead to a shutdown of the system.
