Extortion claim against Dem chair Franks dismissed

Superintendent Mike Scott claimed in the lawsuit that Franks tried to commit extortion by pressuring Scott to resign over an affair he allegedly had with Franks’ then-wife. Scott didn’t resign.

Special Judge Billy Bridges dismissed Scott’s lawsuit this past Wednesday. Bridges’ order was filed Monday.

Jamie and Alisa Franks divorced in June 2010.

Scott was elected Lee County superintendent in 2007 as a Democrat, and is running again this year.

Lee County Democratic chairman Eric Hampton was also named in Scott’s suit. Hampton also says he’s happy the suit was dismissed.
