Federal Judge Henry Wingate is temporarily barred from handling new civil cases until he reduces a backlog of pending motions and civil cases.
Wingate will be allowed to handle new civil cases when he reduces his cases to a number less than or equal to other active district judges in the Southern District of Mississippi. The last available U.S. Courts report showed Wingate with 30 civil cases pending more than three years. The next highest federal judge in the Southern District was Carlton Reeves with six. No other had more than one case longer than three years. Wingate also had 157 motions pending for more than six months.
Wingate needs to take responsibility for his case load and get to work.
