Last week, officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Washington announced Amy would take over quality improvement for the federal Medicare program on July 23 – four months after state lawmakers voted to boot the then-state health officer for a lack of quality and other woes at the Department of Health.
On Friday, The Clarion-Ledger asked federal officials why Amy was hired given his problems in Mississippi.
Officials did not respond, but on Monday, they said Amy no longer had the job. “Dr. Brian Amy is not coming to work for CMS,” said Jeff Nelligan, director of media affairs. He would not comment further, and Amy could not be reached.
