Regular readers will recall a series of comments in which someone close to Judge DeLaughter was defending his decision in the Middleton case, and even arguing that the officer should not have been prosecuted. Recall that it is clear he ran a red light, was speeding in his cruiser, and was not in any need of a hurry. The commenter contended there was no reason to believe that the officer was going in the hundred mile range, and that suggestions to the contrary were simply retailing Jerry Mitchell’s reporting of rumors about the speed. The whole comment series bears reading, both for further information and to grasp the defend-to-the-last-man quality of the argument being made for Judge DeLaughter’s decision.
