State Rep. Mark Formby (R-Picayune) will begin his 20th year in the State House when it convenes on Jan. 3, and it will be the first time he will serve under a Republican House majority and a GOP House Speaker.
Republicans this session will hold a simple majority in the House with 64 GOP members (it takes 62 to pass a bill); it will be the first time Republicans have held a majority since Reconstruction.
“All my previous years, I have served under a Democratic majority and Democrat House Speaker,” said Formby on Wednesday, looking at the upcoming session.
Formby represents House District 108, which consists of Picayune and southwestern Pearl River County. He easily won re-election to the post on Aug. 2 in the Republican first primary. Formby is a Picayune Realtor.
