George Carlson to retire from Miss. Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi Supreme Court Presiding Justice George C. Carlson Jr. of Batesville will retire at the end of his term in January 2013.

He says he will complete the term, but won’t run for re-election in November 2012.

The 65-year-old Carlson will have completed 30 years as a judge in January 2013 — 11 years on the Supreme Court and 19 years as a circuit judge in north Mississippi. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in November 2001 by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.

Carlson says he wants to spend more time with the family.
