Golden Eagle receiver Brown poised to build on stellar first season – when healthy

HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss star receiver DeAndre Brown has had plenty of doubters during his recovery from a broken leg, but recent practices give reason for optimism for USM fans.

Since incurring the gruesome injury in the New Orleans Bowl in December, Brown has fielded a steady stream of questions about the health of his right leg and whether he’ll be able to play in the Golden Eagles’ Sept. 5 opener against Alcorn State.
Coaches say he’s close to being ready.
“We’ve been able to watch him over the past week and he has made progress to a point where he’s making fast cuts and twisting his body in the air,” said Darrell Wyatt, USM’s offensive coordinator.
