GOP leader wants investigation of Scruggs, Hood

The chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party called today for the appointment of an independent counsel to investigate trial lawyer Dickie Scruggs and the relationship between him and his associates with Attorney General Jim Hood.

Chairman Jim Herring said that counsel could be appointed by the chief justice of the state Supreme Court.

Herring acknowledged there is probably no such law on the books, but said he believes it’s a good idea.
