Gov. Phil Bryant said Monday that President Donald Trump’s move to ban travel from seven mostly Muslim nations won’t have a long-term impact on those who are in Mississippi legally.
The president’s action also puts a hold on U.S. acceptance of refugees. Bryant, a Republican and Trump supporter, has challenged President Barack Obama’s stance on allowing illegal aliens to remain in the country.
“The federal policy will affect the state of Mississippi, so it will delay those refugees that have been coming to the state of Mississippi. I don’t believe it will effect a lot that we have from other countries that are continuing to come here and work with Catholic Charities through the Department of Human Services,” Bryant said.
