150 new jobs with the potential to increase to more than 200 in the future was announced today by Gov. Phil Bryant and officials from Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems. Raytheon is expanding at its location in Forest, Miss., by 20,000 square feet to accommodate new contracts and in anticipation of additional growth. Raytheon’s Forest location currently employs more than 700 workers.
Raytheon, an American defense contractor, made the announcement in conjunction with Veteran’s Day and the 30th anniversary of its Forest Consolidated Manufacturing Center.
“I am honored to join global defense leader Raytheon for this exciting announcement, particularly on a day dedicated to our U.S. military veterans and their contributions to our country,” Gov. Phil Bryant said. “Raytheon has been a valued partner to the state of Mississippi and our strong defense industry for 30 years, and I am grateful to the company for further strengthening its roots here and creating so many new jobs for our workforce. I congratulate the company on this expansion and on this milestone anniversary.”
Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems President Rick Yuse said, “Forest has consistently contributed to Raytheon’s manufacturing prowess and affordability since we opened our doors here in 1983. During three decades, Raytheon has added more than 30 programs and expanded to three shifts per day to ensure that our technology is available to the world’s most advanced military forces.”
The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance in support of the project for infrastructure and renovation needs.
“Today, Raytheon is bolstering Mississippi’s foothold in the defense and aerospace sector, and this announcement and the addition of so many new jobs at the company’s Forest facility demonstrates to the world that our state is a great place for businesses to succeed,” said MDA Executive Director Brent Christensen. “We are happy we could assist Raytheon with this expansion, and we wish the company continued success in Forest. “
