Gov. Haley Barbour rallied support Wednesday at the Forrest and Lamar County Republican headquarters to kick off the last few days of Sen. Roger Wicker’s campaign.
Dozens of supporters filled the room to hear Barbour talk about the importance of a victory for Wicker in the Senate seat formerly held by Trent Lott.
“We don’t want to elect someone who would cancel out (Republican Sen.) Thad Cochran’s vote,” he said. “We need to keep this team together. … It makes it absolutely critical that we get out the vote.”
Wicker is running against former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat whom Barbour defeated in 2003.
