Harper hammers Dems

Freshman Republican Congressman Gregg Harper of Pearl blasted Democrat efforts to reform health care and energy policy as well as the federal stimulus plan during a swing through southwest Mississippi on Thursday.

Harper, who lives in Pearl when he’s not in Washington, D.C., spent a 14-day hour day visiting Monticello, Kokomo, Tylertown and McComb.

Addressing local election officials at the Pike County Court Annex, Harper called health care reform “horrible” and used the word “insane” to describe the stimulus plan and a “cap-and-trade” bill, both of which he voted against.

Speaking to the Southwest Mississippi Republican Party at Days Inn in McComb, Harper said, “This is a very discouraging time in our country.”
