Tyler was elected as an election commissioner in 2016 at age 18. In 2017, he claimed that he was a target for an attempt on his life.

Wood took over the position in January after defeating longtime election commissioner Charlie Phillips in November. Wood said he believes he’s being targeted because he’s fighting corruption in the county.

“I’m bringing out all the politicians’ corruption, bringing it to light,” he said. “I’m planting a seed in Forrest County and letting people know, hey, Forrest County ain’t perfect — there’s actually corruption here in Forrest County.

“I really was hoping for better for Forrest County. I’m still going to be fighting for the people and always give them what they need, and that’s someone who will fight for them, bring out corruption and look out for the little people.”
