High school star Bibbs sent to boot camp

Former Northwest Rankin football and basketball star Jeremy Bibbs on Monday reached a plea agreement that will send him to boot camp at the State Penitentiary at Parchman for six to eight months for cocaine possession.

“I’ve made a mistake and I’m willing to accept my punishment,” Bibbs said. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to overcome this situation.”
Bibbs, 18, was accused of selling crack cocaine to an undercover agent in August 2003. He pleaded guilty in Rankin County Circuit Court on Monday to a lesser charge of possession of cocaine.

If he completes the Regimented Inmate Discipline Program at Parchman, Bibbs could get the conviction wiped from his record. If he fails the program, he will be back before a judge for sentencing and would face four to 16 years in prison.
