Jim Hood earned his second term as attorney general by defeating Gulfport attorney Al Hopkins in Tuesday’s general election.
Hood, a 45-year-old Democrat, picked up 60 percent of the vote in fending off the challenge from his Republican opponent. He appeared to be the only Democrat to have won a statewide race Tuesday.
In his campaign, Hood had touted his experience in the courtroom. The Chickasaw County native from the Houlka area had served two terms as district attorney for District 3, which includes much of Northeast Mississippi, before being elected attorney general in 2003.
