Hosemann urges Mississippians to vote in city races

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann hopes Mississippians will think Tuesday morning about veterans, soldiers still dying in Afghanistan and the recent bombing in Boston, then resolve to vote in municipal elections.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Republican and Democratic primaries. Voters can cast ballots in either primary, but not both.

Former Speaker of the House “Tip O’Neill once said that all politics is local,” Hosemann said. “All politics is local, whether you are running for president or alderman. We see a number of heated races. Those are local elections and they strike local fervor up. I’m very hopeful we’ll have a bigger turnout.”

The Coast’s newest city of Diamondhead will be holding its first municipal elections. The city has contested Republican primaries for the mayor’s race and all five council seats.
