Young professionals crowded a conference room in the BancorpSouth Arena on Thursday to hear candidates for the state House of Representatives make their pitches.

Generally, the speakers agreed on the same issues – tort reform, as well as the need for good education and better jobs.

The candidates divided along party lines on expected topics, such as a move to increase the tobacco tax and reduce the grocery tax. The Republican nominees generally opposed the move; the Democrats generally supported it.
