House Transportation Committee Chairman Rep. Charles Busby had this to say in the wake of the debate between the House and Senate regarding MDOT and the funding of roads and bridges:

“Over the past months I have traveled the state to see for myself the condition of our roads and bridges. These visits have served to only reaffirm the dire state of our infrastructure. I believe it is a conservative philosophy to maintain what our citizens have paid to build. There is nothing conservative about allowing our roads and bridges degrade to a point that the financial burden of the fix crushes our taxpayers.  The Mississippi House has offered multiple plans to solve this problem none of which have been given consideration by the Senate. I invite and encourage my friends in the Senate to engage their considerable experience and intellect to help us with this most pressing issue.’
