Hyde-Smith Running For Ag Commissioner

This afternoon Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Brookhaven) announced that she will be a candidate for commissioner of agriculture and commerce; a statewide office made open by the upcoming retirement of Lester Spell.

Hyde-Smith is serving in her third term in the Senate and most recently made headlines when she switched parties. She is a cattle rancher and currently serves as chairwoman of the Agriculture committee. She is the third Republican in the race joining Rep. Dannie Reed of Ackerman and Max Phillips, the 2003 Republican nominee.
