If SEC goes after Texas and Texas A&M, it won’t be the first time

Vince Dooley, Georgia’s athletic director from 1979-2004 and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, told Florida Today recently that the conference almost added Texas and Texas A&M in 1991. That’s when the league added Arkansas and South Carolina to create the first conference championship game for BCS schools.

“Once the goal was set, what we wanted to do was have 12 teams and have a championship game, we initially discussed in some detail of adding Texas and Texas A&M,” Dooley said. “Had we done that, that would have made it a 14-team league.”
