In wake of tumult, Tech will remember Alamo

SAN ANTONIO — Not long after playing the hero in his team’s pulsating 41-31 Valero Alamo Bowl victory over Michigan State on Saturday night, Texas Tech quarterback Steven Sheffield declared it was time to move on.

It had been an exhausting week. Mike Leach was fired Wednesday two days after being suspended for allegedly mistreating injured player Adam James. And the distractions were enormous.

Still, Sheffield couldn’t resist one final parting shot at his former coach.

“I looked up in the stands and I saw ‘Team Leach’ and ‘Bring Back Leach’ signs,” he said. “Leach ain’t coming back. That’s how it is.”
