Attorneys for Mississippi death row inmate Dale Leo Bishop said Tuesday the state has a “dismissive attitude” about concerns that the prisoner’s former lawyer intentionally sabotaged his appeal.

The new attorneys have made serious allegations about the legal work of Bob Ryan, the former director of a state agency responsible for representing indigent death row inmates on appeal.

In several motions filed with the Mississippi Supreme Court, Bishop’s new attorneys have asked for a delay of his scheduled July 23 execution. They accuse Ryan, the former director of the Office of Capital Post-Conviction Counsel, of hiding evidence and filing frivolous claims on the inmate’s behalf.
