OVER THE YEARS, Steve Spurrier made it easy to dislike him, particularly if your team was on the sideline opposite the Visored One. He delighted in taking shots at just about every SEC school. He ran up the score on any and all opponents and boasted about it afterward.
Yet for all his arrogance and haughtiness, there was one area in which Spurrier could not be denied admiration by even his fiercest rivals and detractors. Spurrier abided by NCAA rules, all the while serving as the SEC’s pseudo sheriff as he occasionally policed opponents.
