Ward 6 City Councilman Tony Yarber will take on late Mayor Chokwe Lumumba’s son, Chokwe Antar Lumumba, in the April 22 runoff.
“We are extremely humble. We’re excited about what the citizens of Jackson have the statement they made today, and the work that we have been doing in the community. The work that we’ve been doing in and out of Jackson, specifically the inner city. I think people have paid attention and I think it’s a part of the collective vision in this city,” Yarber said.
“It feels good that the people heard our message. But we have to in the next coming days communicate that message even clearer (and) make sure the people who did not hear our message and did not vote for us, that we communicate even more clearly to them that we understand what their concerns are,” Lumumba said.
The two candidates had the most votes of the field of 13 candidates that including a former mayor, a state senator and two additional members of the Jackson City Council.
