Jackson officials on Monday said they found $400,000 to fill a revenue void created when Mayor Frank Melton refused to raise water and sewer rates.

It was unclear where the money was found.

The city needs $2.9 million to cover a $3.2 million deficit for the fiscal 2008 budget. A majority of City Council members told administration officials, including Director of Finance Rick Hill, to present no more money-related matters to them until the budget is balanced.
