Secretary of state candidate Jeffery Rupp is using his five-year tenure as Columbus mayor as a major stumping point in his campaign.

“I’m the only candidate with executive branch experience to deal with the government beast. I know how to work with it,” the Republican said Tuesday in a meeting with the Daily Journal editorial board.

Rupp, who left the mayor’s office in 2006 for a job at Mississippi State University, talked about his experiences as mayor and how they would play out if he’s elected secretary of state.
