March 31 (Bloomberg) — John Calipari is close to completing an agreement to become the next head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, SI.com reported.
Calipari, 50, has spent the past nine seasons at the University of Memphis, compiling a 252-68 record. The Tigers were 137-14 the past four seasons and reached the title game of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament in 2008.
Calipari could be introduced as Kentucky’s coach as early as today, SI.com said, citing four unidentified people with knowledge of the situation. One person told SI.com that Calipari’s hiring is a “done deal,” while another said the two sides were “moving in that direction.”
