Unless the state Supreme Court rules otherwise, Adrienne Wooten will be seated as the District 71 state representative when the Legislature convenes Jan 8.

But the Mississippi House could have the final say on whether she, not longtime incumbent John Reeves, will represent the district, made up mostly of south Jackson and a sliver of Rankin County.

On Tuesday, Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd canceled a special election scheduled for Dec. 18 between Wooten and Reeves and ordered the Hinds County Election Commission to certify the Nov. 6 election results.
