Judge upholds metal theft law

U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate ruled against their request for an injunction.

Wingate’s decision came late Wednesday.

The law went into effect this week. Wingate had stayed its effective date while he considered the legal challenge.

Metal recyclers have protested provisions that require them to tag and hold certain metals, including copper, for a certain number of days before mailing checks or making electronic transactions for the metals.
