Judge Jordan to “sleep on” severance motion in Melton/Recio case

U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan will “sleep on it” before ruling on a motion to grant separate trials for Jackson Mayor Frank Melton and former bodyguard Michael Recio.

Recio’s attorney, Cynthia Stewart, has filed three written motions and several more verbal ones seeking a separate trial for her client. Jordan said Melton’s apparent desire to testify that Recio had nothing to do with damage caused to a Virden Addition duplex during an Aug. 26, 2006, warrantless raid justified today’s hearing.

Melton declined to say today whether he definitively could testify that Recio played no role in damaging the duplex.
