Judge rules in favor of Sun Herald in public records lawsuit against DMR

Chancery Judge Jennifer Schloegel has ruled that the Department of Marine Resources records are public and should be provided to the Sun Herald.

The newspaper filed a public records lawsuit in January against the state Department of Marine Resources and later added the State Auditor’s Office.

Schloegel’s ruling will come after a day-long hearing on Wednesday that was closed to the public for several hours because the judge wanted to determine how the records are linked to a secret grand jury investigation.
