Judge Dan Jordan declared a mistrial last Tuesday in the case against the Mayor and his former bodyguard Michael Recio.
Since the trial ended last week, we have been in contact with one juror named Martha from Hattiesburg.
She’s already provided us with great insight on the deliberations. Now she’s given us with the final juror votes on each count in relation to Melton and Recio.
On count one, conspiracy, the jurors vote was five guilty, seven not guilty for Mayor Melton, and five guilty, seven not guilty for Michael Recio.
On count two, violation of constitutional rights through illegal search and seizure, the vote for Mayor Melton was ten guilty, two not guilty.
For Michael Recio it was five guilty and seven not guilty. If found guilty, counts one and two would have carried a sentence of 10 years each.
On count three, using a firearm in a crime of violence, the vote for Melton five guilty, and seven not guilty. For Michael Recio it was five guilty and seven not guilty. That count carries a jail term of five years.
