LOS ANGELES – Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant coach Joe Barry was hired Tuesday by USC coach Lane Kiffin to coach the Trojans’ linebackers.
Barry, a former USC linebacker in the mid-1990s, also is the son of former USC offensive line coach Mike Barry. He spent the 2007-08 seasons in Tampa Bay working under current USC defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
Barry told the Tampa Tribune the chance of an NFL work stoppage in 2011 also played a part in his decision.
“SC gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse, they made it real nice for me, and with the NFL and where it’s at right now,” Barry said. “I just had to take them up on it if I could.”
